TMBU Professor suspended for sexual misconduct

Patna,(BiharTimes): After a Vice Chancellor it is the turn of a Professor who has been charged with the sexual misbehaviour.

Prof Manish Chandra Verma, a senior faculty member in the PG department of the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University has been suspended on the alleged charge of sexual harassment of a research scholar.

The action followed submission of an interim probe report on allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by a research scholar.

The research scholar last month lodged a complaint with police. Besides, she made a representation to the SP. She has written to the governor-cum-chancellor of the universities, the Chief Justice of India and various rights bodies.

Though several women organizations besides, All India Students Association, Chhatra RJD and other social and political organizations have thrown their lot behind the PhD scholar the teachers’ body has dubbed the university’s decision as hasty one.

According to the TMBU public relations officer Iqbal Ahmed the teacher was suspended on Monday on the basis of the probe panel’s interim report. The suspended teacher has been transferred to Murarka College at Sultanganj till the panel submits its final report.

However, University Department Teachers’ Association secretary Dr Jagdhar Mandal said that his body seeks withdrawal of the suspension order till the probe is completed. He said that one can not be punished before the accusations are proved.

Suspension is very right step at this juncture. University Department Teachers Association seeking withdrawal of suspension order on the ground till the probe is completed and one cannot be punished before the accusations are proved, is not tenable. That way arrest by police after file of FIR before accusations are proved should also be challenged.

Once the accusation is proved after probe, he should be dismissed.
