Bihar-born US-based linguist gets UP Hindi-Urdu Literary Award

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Eminent Bihar-born linguist Dr M J Warsi was on Saturday conferred with Hindi-Urdu literary award for his contribution in the field of Hindi-Urdu Language and linguistics.
A gold medalist from Aligarh Muslim University and a West Bengal Urdu Academy award holder, Warsi, who is associated with Washington University has also authored four books, which help understand the efficacy of the common contact in languages, culture and identity. One of his books Evaluation of Media Reach and Effectiveness: A Linguistic Exercise was published in Germany in 2009.

Warsi teaches in the Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis. He originally hails from Kuseshwarsthan block of Darbhanga district of Bihar.

Other prominent personalities who received the award include K P Saxena, Nawaz Deobandi, Harish Nawal, Shahid Siddiqui, Gyan Chaturvedi, Jalees Sherwani and Surya Kumar Pandey and others.

Some of the earlier recipients of this prestigious award are Gulzar, Bashir Badr, Nida Fazli, Kumar Sarvesh and Ashok Chakrdhar.

The Conference was inaugurated by Science and Technology Minister of UP Abdul Mannan and chaired by former governor of Jharkhand Sibte Razi. This year’s literary convention was dedicated to famous satirist K P Saxena and Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi.
