Speaker relaxes rule for woman MLAs on Women’s Day

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar women MLAs were on the International Women's Day on Tuesday allowed by the Speaker to raise questions and discuss problems in their constituencies during the Zero Hour in the Assembly. But this was possible only after an intervention by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Soon after the end of the Question Hour, BJP MLA Usha Vidyarthy wanted to know about the fate of her request to the Assembly secretariat, seeking permission to raise a question demanding a statement from the government on the alleged misbehaviour with journalists at Bihta near Patna a few days back.
But the Speaker refused to entertain her request. Upon this the woman MLA said that while the entire nation is celebrating Women’s Day “we are being ignored here”.

It is upon this that the Chief Minister intervened and requested the chair to allow the women legislators to have their say and raise the matter.

It is only then that the Speaker relaxed the rules and allowed the BJP MLA to raise her question.
After Usha four more woman legislators Poonam Devi, Asha Devi, Muni Devi and Usha Sinha raised questions about some problems in their respective constituencies.

However, after allowing the women members to raise the issues, the Speaker said he had respected the sentiments of the legislators but such requests won’t be entertained in future’.
