Bihar MLAs flay govt as 2,700 tubewells lie defunct

.Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the Bihar government on Friday conceded that as high as 2,700 tubewells are lying defunct in the state, MLAs cutting across party lines strongly attacked the government in Zero Hour for doing absolutely nothing to solve the growing problem of water shortage all over Bihar.

Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui (RJD), Congress legislature party leader, Sadanand Singh, and ruling Janata Dal (United) MLA, Ajit Kumar, demanded that the state government take immediate steps to restore the tubewells as the people are facing acute water shortage even though summer is yet to come.

However, the Energy Minister told the Assembly that the state government would ensure the repair of these 2,700 tubewells within next six months.

He said that the agencies have been asked to restore the faulty tubewells on turn-key basis.
But his intervention failed to calm down the MLAs who said that by the time they are repaired winter would arrive.
