Shortage of teachers: Bihar govt blames it on shortage of competent hands

Patna,(BiharTimes): When the country is producing lakhs of engineers and thousands of law graduates every year the Bihar government is of the view that there are so many vacancies in technical institutes because there is serious shortage of competent candidates to fulfil the criteria for the post of teachers in the state.

State’s Human Resources Development Minister Prashant Kumar Shahi, said in the State Legislative Council on Friday that the state have not received applications from qualified teachers for these institutes, including Chanakya National Law University despite repeated advertisements. He said the craze for teaching profession has decreased in recent years apparently due to greener avenues in corporate and private sectors.

Similarly, while replying to a question from BJP’s Narendra Prasad Singh, science and technology minister Gautam Singh earlier said 362 of the 446 sanctioned posts in the state’s six engineering colleges are lying vacant because of this very reason.

A proposal was sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission for appointments against these vacancies but the Commission has been able to recommend only two appointments so far.

Council chairman Tarakant Jha directed the government to look into the matter.
