Janata Dal(United) suspends four rebellious MPs

Patna,(BiharTimes): Four months after the landslide victory of the NDA in Bihar the Janata Dal (United) on Monday suspended four of its MPs––three of Lok Sabha and one of Rajya Sabha.

Though half of the 20 party MPs openly worked against the party’s candidates the party had taken action against only four of them.

Those against whom action are taken are former state party president, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, alias Lallan Singh, Sushil Singh. Mangni Lal Mandal and Rajya Sabha MP, Upendra Kushwaha. Incidentally Lallan and Upendra were at daggers drawn position when they were both in the Janata Dal (United). In fact it was said that Upendra’s entry into the party led to Lallan’s exit. But during the Assembly election both became severe critic of Naitish Kumar.

The announcement in this regard was made by the Janata Dal (United) national general secretary, Jawed Raza, in New Delhi on Monday. The party took action after the state disciplinary committee found that the four MPs had campaigned against the party’s candidates in the state during the last Assembly election.

State party chief Vashishtha Narayan Singh had forwarded the report of the committee to the Janata Dal (United) national president, Sharad Yadav.

However, Upendra Kushwaha had repeatedly been stating that the state unit can not take action against any MP.

It needs to be recalled that Mangni Lal Mandal is the chief whip of the Janata Dal (United) in the Lok Sabha.

What is interesting is that several other MPs worked against the party, for example, Monazir Hasan, Captain Jai Narayan Nishad, Purnmasi Ram, Mahabali Singh etc yet no action had been taken against them. Their immediate relatives contested the election on rival party tickets yet they were left untouched.

The Janata Dal (United) took the action only when the MPs lost the bargaining position.

Though at present the party has managed to overcome the crisis yet political observers are of the view that in future the suspended leaders may create problem for the Janata Dal (United).
