Patna’s bus service gets a face-lift; 70 new vehicles hit roads

Patna,(BiharTimes): It is not that mini-buses do not ply on the roads of Patna. There are dozens which move at snail’s pace on different routes of the state capital.
It is other thing that usually passengers do not prefer them as they take too much time. Besides, unlike in Delhi or other metros auto-rickshaw facilities are available at relatively cheap rate here. In other big cities the three-wheelers run only on the reserved basis.

To give a facelift to the mass urban transport system chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday evening flagged off some buses of the 70-strong fleet.

Inaugurating the big buses in CM Secretariat he expressed hope that the Bihar State Road Transort Corporation would be revived.

The BSRTC has never been a success story in Bihar and by late 1980s and early 1990s it virtually came to a standstill with only a handful of buses at its disposal. It was unable to pay salaries to its employees. One of its employees even committed suicide in protest.

However, following the Supreme Court intervention in late 1990s some new buses were bought to give a new lease of life. According to the sources the last such bus was bought in 2003.

It is good to know about new city bus service in Patna, we wish great success of this public private partnership, but it seems inadequate for Patna as city is growing like anything, as I have seen the route plan and number of buses, Patna need bus service which can cover upcoming area with the boundary of the city, it should cover following area with all urban city centre places like Fatuha/Bihta/Hajipur/Nabautpur/Gaya Road (Pun pun) with in-depth planning , I should suggest to run bigger buses on major routes. If city like Varanasi/Allahabad/Kanpur are having bigger size city buses why not Patna. Also like to know, what happen to BUSES which are coming under JNNURM SCHEME in two Bihar city(Patna & Bodhgaya), long back I have read a news in leading bihartimes.com about Patna to have 100 city buses
under JNNURM scheme. Most of the city in our country already rolled out these buses, what about Patna….
