Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday once again demanded 50 per cent share of power produced by NTPC plants in the
state to meet the requirements of the people.
Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of Janata Darbar he said a delegation of NDA MPs had called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for stepping up pressure in this regard. |
He said he had also raised the issue during his meeting with Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in New Delhi last week. He said that at present the state was receiving hardly 17 per cent of the total
power produced by NTPC in Bihar. Under the agreement the state share is 38 per cent.
He conceded that the people of Bihar were not availing even one-sixth of national average of per capita power availability. In summer several units of NTPC are shut down creating acute power crisis. Nitish said that in the event of such shut downs, the supply must be made up through other sources.
Stating that Bihar had evinced interest in hydel power projects on the pattern of Bhutan the chief minister said the Centre should utilise the hydel power potentials in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and provide concessions for setting them in the two states. Bihar is ready for partnership for hydel projects in these two states.Bihar's own power plants in Kanti and Barauni are hardly producing any electricity.
