Nationalised banks urged to open more branches in rural Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said that the Bihar government would urge nationalised banks to open branches in all the villages having a population of over 2,000.

Talking to newsmen in Patna on Tuesday he said there are 9,213 villages with population of more than 2,000 which did not have banking facilities


Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, stressed the need for opening more branches in rural areas in the state.


He said different banks had opened 800 new branches in the state since April 2008 and that the RBI had already issued licences for opening of 148 new branches, which should be complied with soon.

He said the state had more potential for loans that was necessary to ensure the opening of more branches in the state for the purpose.
