Patna,(BiharTimes): Not a single college of Patna University could be selected for the coveted CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) Status by the University Grants Commission. |
All the five premier colleges of PU, Patna Science College, Patna College, B N College, Magadh Mahila College and Patna Law College, had applied to the UGC for this status.
Incidentally College of Commerce under Magadh University got the CPE Status. A N College, another college under Magadh University, has already got this status. This status is awarded to an institution on the basis of its overall academic performance.
While both the MU colleges have been awarded A grade by by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) Patna Science College, B N College and Magadh Mahila College have been awarded with B++ grade.
Patna College, once known for producing a large number of Civil Servants, did not even apply for accreditation.
The declining standard of PU colleges is a cause of concern for the academics and old-boys and old-girls.
The condition of Patna Science College, once known for its academic excellence all over eastern India, can be measured from the fact that the entire campus gropes in dark at night with no bulb anywhere around. The campus is never cleaned and students clash among themselves or with outsiders quite frequently.
