Patna,(BiharTimes): Thousands of devotees took a holy dip at the confluence of rivers Ganga and Gandak at Sonepur, 40km from Patna, on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on Thursday.
The occasion also marks the beginning of month-long Asia’s biggest cattle fair, Sonepur Mela, which was thrown open on Wednesday evening by the land reforms and revenue minister Ramai Ram. The fair is spread over a 200-acre venue.

The minister said the fair would see sale and purchase of ponies, horses, sheep, rabbits, dogs, buffaloes, cows, donkeys, goats, pigs and camels. Several varieties of birds will also be on sale. Craftsmen from across the country would display their exotic products for sale.
According to an official sources another attempt is being made to ban the vulgar theatre shows in the fair.
