Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has chosen the same language in justifying the repeated hike in electricity rate as Centre takes in case with petrol price hike.
|
Talking to the newsmen on the sidelines of Janata Darbar on Monday he said the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission fixes the tariff and the state government does not directly interfere in tariff fixation as there is a full-fledged Commission which deals with such matters.
Responding to a newsman’s query about the rationale behind hiking the premium tariff of electricity in cities like Patna, Rajgir and Bodh Gaya he said the Regulatory Commission had decided to increase electricity tariff after holding consultations with all the sides. He said the Commission’s decision on the issue is final.
At the same time, he said if the government wanted to lower the rate of electricity for a place it would have to give subsidy to the Bihar State Electricity Board. But the state government is already facing heavy financial burden in energy sector as it has to give subsidy following increase in the rate of electricity by NTPC.
It needs to be recalled that the Union government recently washed its hands of after the hike in petrol and LPG prices by stating that it can do nothing as the prices are decided by the oil firms
