Patna,(BiharTimes): Before visiting schools of Patna former President A P J Abdul Kalam on Tuesday literally took class of the MLAs of Bihar in the state Assembly.
Touching various aspects during his lecture he once again asked politicians to involve themselves in development politics to restore public confidence in the political system of the country. He told the state’s elected representatives that the political system does not enjoy full confidence of the people inspite of the good work done over the years.

Addressing the legislators at a seminar “243 Development Pillars of Bihar” he said the lawmakers should take their election to the Assembly as an opportunity to deliver the goods to their electors in their respective constituencies which would help shape an economically developed, happy, prosperous and peaceful state.
As during the last several visits he gave special emphasis on boosting agriculture productivity and marketing. Besides, he called for attracting medium and small scale industries, promoting the tourism industry, besides mitigation of flood and water shortage and implementation of a sustained rural development system for making Bihar a developed state.
Giving suggestions to fight flood and drought, which are perennial problems of the state, he asked the state government to adopt a 15-year vision programme to create waterways so that it not only becomes flood-free, but also generates abundant power and provides irrigation system in the districts and navigational waterways that would attract domestic and international tourists.
He asked farmers to form cooperatives to improve agricultural output. This would help put together small land holdings for farming through mechanized methods.
Farmers of the small holdings could be deployed in the agriculturual marketing network and create value addition to the agriculture produces and in other high growth sectors.
Besides, community managed agricultural marketing system should be set up so that farmers themsleves could search to market their produces at the best price.
Kalam said that the multi-religious state of Bihar should explore its tourism sector as it has the potential for employment generation on a large scale.
The Missile Man said that the state government should set a target of attracting one million foreign and 10 million domestic tourists every year and set out on a five-year tourism mission to put in place infrastructure and train human resources to attain global standards of tourism.
The government could get into partnership, if required, with international communities for funding infrastructure development for spiritual centres, he said.
He asked the Nitish government to launch the programme, Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA), for development of rural regions of the state, so that it may help check urbanization. The state government should at least set up 500 PURA complexes across the state to cater to the development aspirations of about 45,000 villages, the former President said.
