Patna,(BiharTimes): Though Election Commission guidelines stipulate mandatory declaration of assets by candidates at the time of filing of nomination papers yet MLAs and MLCs of Bihar will now have to declare their assets annually.
|
Sources said that the State Assembly Speaker Udai Narain Choudhary and the Legislative Council Chairman Tara Kant Jha have issued a directive in this regard asking members of the respective Houses to furnish details of their property. The Speaker and Council Chairman too will be covered under the new norms.
Only last year Ministers and officials were asked to declare their assets.
So instead of five years the Legislators will now have to furnish details of their assets every year by December 31, to the Secretariats of the Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad, depending on the membership of their House.
It must be recalled that after coming to power for the second time in November last year Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had declared that Ministers including himself and officials, including IAS and IPS, will have to mandatorily make public their assets annually.
Political observers are of the view that since many corrupt candidates manage to hoodwink Election Commision and are not caught it is to be seen what impact the latest state government directive will have on the elected representatives of Bihar.
