Matuk Nath's dismissal revoked

Patna, Nov 23 (IANS) A Patna University professor who was dismissed from service for romancing one of his women students, was Wednesday reinstated by the Bihar governor, who is chancellor of the state's varsities.

Matuknath Choudhary, professor of Hindi at B.N. College, hit the headlines in 2006 for his affair with a student.

"I am happy and thankful to the state governor, who heard my voice for justice. Now, I will join my work to teach students after a gap of five years," said Matuknath, who along with the student and other supporters, including students, was on an indefinite fast since Monday.

He was first suspended July 15, 2006 after his affair hit headlines. He was then dismissed from service in 2009.

The university had taken action against him after Choudhary, in his 50s, had publicly declared his love for the student, half his age, and began living with her.

He was arrested along with the student after his wife complained to the police.

Choudhary's face was also blackened by some people, including relatives.
