Sushil Modi flays attack on auto-drivers in Mumbai as politics get murkier

Patna,(BiharTimes): Deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday denounced the attack on North Indian autorickshaw drivers by cadres of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
He sees a political design in such attacks and squarely held the Chavan government responsible for the situation.

It was only on Tuesday that the MNS chief Raj Thackeray alleged that 95 per cent of autorickshaw drivers caught indulging in malpractices are from UP and Bihar.

He threatened that his party would step in if commuters suffer due to the “arrogant” behaviour of auto-drivers. Hours after his warning his cadres swung into action and singled out auto-drivers belonging to North India. Raj also called on Maharashtrian auto-drivers not to join the indefinite strike.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday Thackeray alleged that those coming from outside states are staying in Mumbai and Thane using bogus documents.

Raj Thackeray’s attack and Sushil Modi’s counter attack came just a few days from Lal Krishna Advani’s Rath Yatra. It is now more than a Bihar-Maharashtra issue as Raj recently threw his weight behind Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. On the other hand the BJP leaders of Bihar want to project that Raj is doing all this at the instance of the Congress government.

At present the BJP is a divided lot with Narendra Modi having his reservation over Advani’s Rath Yatra. Any proximity between MNS president and Gujarat chief minister is likely to embarrass the Advani faction of BJP, which is all set to launch its Yatra from Bihar on October 11.

On the other hand a new twist has been given to the whole episode with people in Bihar asking as to why Anna Hazare is silent over the issue.
