Abducted Dalit family rescued from Bihar village

Patna,(BiharTimes): Police in Bihar on Thursday rescued six members of a Dalit family, who were abducted from Eknar village in Nawada district, allegedly by some upper castemen, five days back.
The police action followed media reports and complaint of the head of the family, Diksha Manjhi.

The police raided a flour mill and rescued the six who were identified as Arun Manjhi, his wife Pancholba Devi and four children Ganesh, Buddhan, Laxmi and Arti.
According to police Chuna Singh and Biren Singh, two local strongmen, abducted them from Collector Bigha village five days ago apparently to teach a lesson as Arun had failed to report for work at their farmland after taking advance wages. However, the abductors managed to escape.
Reports from Nawada said that the abductors had ill-treated the Dalit family during confinement and provided them meal just once a day. The family members have been taken to the office of a magistrate for recording their statements under Section 164 of the CrPC.
