The court passed the directive on a bunch of contempt petitions. The eight officials neither appeared in person nor filed their showcause replies before the court.
While Samrendra Pratap Singh is the VC of L N Mithila University at Darbhanga, Arun Kumar Sinha is the Vice Chancellor of B N Mandal University at Madhepura. The arrest warrants have also been issued against registrars of both the varsities and the finance officer of B N Mandal University.
The state government officials against whom the arrest warrants have been issued include the joint secretary of health department, the principal of Government Ayurvedic College, Patna, and the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Supaul.
The arrest warrants were issued to ensure the presence of the officials in the court. They would have to explain before the judge why they should not be held guilty of contempt of court.
Warrants were issued against VCs and officials of the universities because of their failure to obey the court’s order to pay salary arrears to their retired employees.
The joint secretary of health department and the principal of Government Ayurvedic College, Patna, had to face the wrath of the court over a transfer order.
The arrest warrant against the SDM of Supaul was issued because he did not dispose of a grievance application as ordered by the court.
