Patna,(BiharTimes): Four years after the killing of eight people by the police in an ‘encounter’ in Khagaria district of Bihar the State Human Rights Commission has directed the Nitish government to recommend a CBI probe into the incident.

According to the Chairman of the SHRC, Justice (Retired) Sachchidanand Jha, the Commission has directed the state government to recommend a CBI investigation into the fake police encounter at Mansi in Khagaria district on December 13, 2007. Eight people were shot dead by the police.
The order was passed while hearing a case lodged by Jaldhary Chaudhary and others alleging that their relatives, including a former mukhiya Surendra Yadav, were present at the latter’s house when the police surrounded them and fired indiscriminately killing eight people.
The petition alleged that the incident was a gross violation of human rights guidelines laid down by the National Human Rights Commission as the police shot dead the people without warning. It also alleged that the state police authorities appeared to have given a clean chit to the policemen involved in the fake encounter as no magisterial inquiry was ordered into the incident.
However, the police tried to justify their acts by describing the victims as outlaws and extortionists.
