Patna,(BiharTimes): The former Speaker of Bihar Legislative Assembly, Sadanand Singh, was on Monday granted anticipatory bail from the Patna High Court in a case related to alleged irregularities in recruitment of Class III and IV employees in the Assembly Secretariat between 2000 and 2005, when he was the Speaker.

Justice Mandhata Singh granted bail to Sadanand on the ground that prima facie he had no role to play in all these appointments and none of the appointees was his candidate. The Court also ruled that neither he was involved in any way in interviews conducted for the posts nor in changes made in the selection committee.Top of Form
The Court asked Sadanand to furnish a personal bond of Rs one lakh while hearing his bail petition.
The Court had, on August 16, stayed the arrest warrant of Sadanand Singh in this case.
The Vigilance had lodged an FIR against 42 persons, including Sadanand, on May 9. The accused have been charged under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 477(A), 201 and 120(B) of the IPC and Section 13(II) read with 13(I) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. If found guilty, the accused can even face life imprisonment.
The examination for the appointment of lower grade clerks through advertisement number 20/2001 was conducted on August 11, 2002. Altogether, 90 people were appointed in different phases.
It was argued that 30 of them were relatives and family members of the accused. A Vigilance team, headed by senior deputy superintendent of police Prakash Nath Mishra, found evidence of irregularities in the recruitment process during a preliminary probe. During probe, the Vigilance team found that serving employees were appointed examiners.
Earlier, a Vigilance court had on May 23 last rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Sadanand.
Sadanand, who is also the leader of the Congress Legislature Party on his part, has repeatedly accused the ruling NDA of blackmailing him to join the BJP or Janata Dal (United).
