Patna,(BiharTimes): Union minister of state for rural development Agatha Sangma praised the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar and supported the state government’s demand of special status for Bihar. |
She was speaking at Katari village under Rajgir block of chief minister’s home district of Nalanda district on Thursday.
But her view on the Nitish government has more to do with politics than anything else. Four days back this NCP minister was in Bhubaneswar where she called on the Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik. As if that was not enough on Wednesday Union minister for new and renewable energy and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah too visited Bhubaneswar. Apparently both the visits were officials but the issues related to the Presidential election were reportedly discussed. They also explored the possibility of forming a Third Front.
Agatha’s father, P A Sangma, a former Lok Sabha Speaker, recently demanded that Prime Minister should be from the Lok Sabha. That was a very significant statement.
Though Nitish repeatedly owed his allegiance to the NDA several other non-Congress leaders in the UPA are trying to flex their muscle and planning to build bridges with leader like Nitish Kumar.
Politics apart, Agatha Sangma in Katari studied the progress made by womenfolk of the state through self help groups (SHGs) and village organizations under the state government and World Bank-sponsored Jeevika.
Reports said that 116-member strong Kranti Village Organization (VO) comprising 11 SHGs, which covers 116 households out of 167 at the village, informed her that they were engaged in varied economic activities ranging from farming to dairy, which had made them self dependent.
