Nalanda University has shifted its headquarter, not to Rajgir but within New Delhi. The new headquarter is located at 53, Lodhi Estate that is an accredited institutional area. The spacious office is housed at second floor of Sangha Rachna, as the building of Council for Social Development is known as. Prof. Muchkund Dubey, President of CSD is a former Foreign Secretary of India. With this relocation, headquarter of the Nalanda University has moved within one kilometer of Vice Chancellor’s plush official accommodation at 117, Jor Bagh.

The previous office at Sector-6 Ramakrishna Puram has been vacated. The University should have its headquarters in Nalanda district of Bihar, as per Section 4 (4) of the Nalanda University Act, 2010.
In its recent recruitment ad the university had announced that the selected candidates should eventually be ready to shift to Rajgir, where the new campus is coming up. With the University staying put in New Delhi, it may quite be sometimes times before they planned about Rajgir.
