Patna,(BiharTimes): Thanks to improvement in overall communication links and other related factors the flow of tourists in Bihar has more than doubled in last several years. While the state received over 1,93,69,977 foreigners and domestic tourists in 2011 the figure was just 87,50,541 in 2005. |
According to the Union tourism ministry out of of these 9,72,487 were foreign tourists. The country received nearly 70 lakh foreign tourists in 2011, which means about 14 per cent of foreigners came to Bihar. Most of the tourists are in fact pilgrims, who visit Bodh Gaya, Vaishali and Rajgir.
Unlike sea-beaches of Goa or hill stations in Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Darjeeling in North Bengal, the state has not much scope of attracting foreign tourists.
Gaya international airport receives between 45,000 and 50,000 foreign tourists a year, obviously most of them from Buddhist countries.
