Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday welcomed Union Finance minister P Chidambaram’s stand on the special category status.
Speaking at a function organized by the Bihar Chamber of Commerce in Patna on Friday the chief minister hoped that this statement of the Union finance minister would kindle hope for Bihar to win special category status.

Appreciating Chidambaram’s view that there is a need for review of the qualifying parameters for granting special category stauts to backward states like Bihar Nitish said the finance minister has used the same words as “we had done while making our plea to him. After days of struggle and campaign the Centre has accepted the demand in principle.
Chidambaram expressed these views in Rajya Sabha while replying to a question by JD(U) MP N K Singh that a backward state like Bihar can not be left behind to fend for itself and that there is a need to change the laid down criterion for according special status.
Nitish sees a ray of hope in this statement of the finance minister. He, however, said he would continue to agitate till Bihar gets the status.
