Former A N Sinha Institute director Sachchidananda passes away

Patna,(BiharTimes): The former director of the A N Sinha Institute of Social Studies (ANSISS), Sachchidananda, died at the age of 86 after protracted illness at a private hospital in New Delhi in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sachchidananda, a resident of Kadam Kuan, was a renowned Sociologist, who remained intellectually active till last though he laid down the office of ANSISS director way back in September, 1980.

He continued to serve the Institute as a Professor of Sociology and Anthropology. He also served as Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University during 1985-86.

In 1986, he was appointed a member of Bihar State Planning Board. He retired from the service of ANSISS in October, 1988, but was later appointed as Professor Emeritus there. He was chairperson of the Board of Control of ANSISS between 2001 and 2004. He was chairman of the Braj Kishore Memorial Institute and Bihar Vidyapeeth till he breathed his last.

He wrote dozens of books and guided a large number of research scholars. His last book entitled The Child is Bihar: A Situation Analysis was released on November 12 last year. That was the last occasion he visited to ANSISS.
 
Scholars and social scientists such as Prof Hetukar Jha (Sociologist), Surendra Gopal (Historian), D M Diwakar (present director, ANSISS), I C Kumar, (Retd IAS), Shaibal Gupta (ADRI), Sudhir Kumar (registrar, ANSISS) and several professors of Patna University condoled his death.
