Patna,(BiharTimes):Two persons were killed in a clash between suspect Maoists and villagers of Garhi near Khaira in Jamui district on Monday night. Besides, one Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, was abducted by them.
However, the Superintendent of Police, Upendra Kumar Sharma, denied that it was a Maoists’
attack and said that some criminals were involved in it. He said that dispute over the immersion of idols of Saraswati sparked off the clash. |
Local villagers said that 20-25 uniformed ‘Maoists’ attacked the village at about 8:00 PM. The villagers resisted the attack and the exchange of fire continued for over two and a half hours. The ‘Maoists’ fled from the scene only after taking away one, Mohammad Abdul Jabbar.
The police arrived 13 hours after the incidents on Tuesday morning.
The place of occurrence is a Muslim-dominated village. It was in this very district that the suspected Maoists killed seven persons of the Muslim community a few weeks back.
However, some Muslim organizations then alleged that it was the handiwork of the communal elements. Therefore, it became easy for the police to once again dub the Monday incident as a clash over immersion. Villagers are angry over the indifferent approach of the police and the delay in their arrival.
Reports from the distict said that the police is trying to enter the jungle bordering Giridih in Jharkhand. Jamui is a Maoist-infested district and even the police fear to tread at many places.
