Patna,(BiharTimes): Something very unusual is happening in Bihar these days. Yet they are largely going unreported in the name of image makeover of the state.
The state government has made it mandatory for all the officials and employees of the Secretariat to attend the three-day Global Summit (Feb 17-19, 2012). |
To ferry them from four Secretariats to the Shri Krishna Memorial Hall buses have been pressed into service. On Friday these buses left for their destination at 12:15 PM so that the officials and employees could reach the venue before its inauguration by the Nepalese Prime Minister, Baburam Bhattarai, at 3:00 PM.
The government order has come for the officials and employees above Rs 5400 grade. The lesser mortals have been left to enjoy at Secretariat in the absence of their masters.
The official reason given for making the attendance compulsory is that they would learn a lot from such international meet.
However, those who have experience of organizing such functions have a different take. They say that such measures are taken when there is fear that the venue would not be filled and would leave a bad impression on the guests.
Anyway the worst sufferer would be common citizens who would approach Secretariat to find no one there.
But the unanswered question is: Will these employees really attend the Summit or simply walk away from the venue once dropped by the buses?
