Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday apologised for the slapping of a middle-aged woman by the City SP, Kim Sharma, opposition parties have strongly denounced the police chief’s behaviour and raised the issue both in Assembly and Council. |
If RJD chief Lalu Yadav has asked for action against the officer his party’s general secretary Ram Kripal Yadav questioned the way Nitish Kumar sought forgiveness on behalf of the SP.
Taking the “moral responsibility” Nitish said he apologises for what happened here on Monday night. He was speaking in the Council after the RJD leader Ghulam Ghouse raised the issue during Zero Hour. He said that the police was treating the respectable citizens like criminals and action should be taken against Kim.
Nitish assured the House he had asked the Chief Secretary to give him a detailed account of the incident. He said that as it was the first such act by the lady SP she should be forgiven.
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi also spoke in the same vein. The lady officer has joined recently. She does not know much. “We should forget the incidence,” he said.
The Divisional Commissioner of Patna had been asked to probe the matter. He would start his investigation from 11:00 AM on Thursday.
The TV clippings showing the SP repeatedly slapping the woman and pulling her hair has come as a huge embarrassment for the police administration and state government, especially at the time of the Assembly session.
Meanwhile, RJD’s national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Ram Kripal Yadav, who met the victim as well as the family members of the two youths who got electrocuted, has strongly criticized the chief minister and his deputy for seeking forgiveness on the plea that the SP was new and had indulged in such an act for the first time. He asked as to why an inexperienced person had been made the SP of the district as important as the state capital.
Yadav demanded immediate action against the drunk policemen as well as the SP, who slapped the woman.
He said that Nitish Kumar should make a law that any youth who commits murder, rape, dacoity, kidnapping or any other crime for the first time should be let off as he had done it for the first time.
He said the chief minister had made mockery of the law and order in the state. It is because of him that the police have become tyrant. This amounts to condoning of crime. Law should be equal to all be it the police officer or common citizens.
He asked does the Indian society give permission to raise hand on senior citizens, especially the women.
