Siddiqui blasts govt for lavish waste of people’s money in Global Summit

Patna,(BiharTimes): The leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, took the state government to task for lavish waste of people’s money in Global Summit, which yielded no result.

Taking part in the debate over Governor’s Address he said that during the Summit Patna was decorated like the Delhi Durbar at the time of the visit of King George V in 1911, when the capital was shifted from Kolkata. The entire state’s attention was confined to Shri Krishna Memorial Hall and people were left to fend for themselves.

“I was surprised to listen to what Karan Bilimoria said that had Gandhiji been here I would have offered him beer.” This is really shocking.

However, at this point the deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi cut in to clarify that Bilimoria did not say the way Siddiqui is saying. He in fact had said that countrymade (deshi) liquor had 65 per cent alcohol while beer had only six per cent alcohol. Modi said that the Bilimoria had jokingly said that he would have offered alcohol-free beer to Gandhiji. There is no point agreeing or disagreeing with anyone on this count, yet this is what he said, the deputy chief minster added.

Harping on the Summit the RJD leader said what those invited had said had appeared in the newspapers. They had said that without improvement in power condition no development would take place. They had questioned as to why poverty is not declining in Bihar.

Taking a dig at the flourishing scams in the school he cited the example of principal secretary Afzal Amanullah’s report about Lakhanbigha panchayat in Danapur sub-division of Patna district. The report had said that the said panchayat had the population of 9310, yet 7105 children study in school.

Siddiqui said that he had personally visited a number of schools in his Assembly constituency to find the deplorable condition and loot of money in the name of midday meal and other schemes.

Quoting from the state police’s own figure he said that in 2001, (that is during the Rabri raj), 95,942 cognizable offences were reported which jumped to 143,635 in 2011. “Tell me which is more,” he asked the House.

He said 3158 murder,  556 dacoity, 9768 riots as well as serious riots and 4211 kidnappings took place in 2011. “This is the official figure and not mine,” he added saying that yet the state government claims that the law and order situation has improved.

He asked teasingly as to what had happened to all the traders who had fled from the state during the previous government? How many have come back and what type of industry or business have they established? The state government must come up with a White Paper, he said.

He cited the names of 35 prominent traders killed all over the state in the past few months.

Siddiqui asked the state government as to why not more than 15 per cent of the Chief Minister Area Development Fund has been spent in the current financial year. The state government had last year replaced the MLA Local Area Development Fund with this latest scheme in the name of Chief Minister.
