In a letter dated February 16’ the senior BJP leader through his office secretary has requested the Deputy chief minister for action to be taken in the matt
“I am desired to request you to please take appropriate action in the matter”, said he letter undersigned by Deepak Chopra, secretary to the Chairman of the BJP Parliamentary Party, Lal Krishna Advani.
Over a month ago on January 27 the Bihar based assistant editor with the Pioneer newspaper, Amarnath Tewary was attacked murderously by a local BJP leader Ms Madhu Verma, her son Rituraj, driver and other goons inside the premises of his residential complex, Charminar Apartment in Rajendra Nagar.
The local BJP leader, ironically, had charged Tewary for pilfering petrol from her vehicle. Some other residents of the Apartment who rushed to save the scribe were also beaten up by the BJP leader and her goons.
Tewary had got multiple bruises on his face, back and legs in the assault incident ad had to rush to nearby government hospital for medical assistance.
Later, after much insistence the local Kadamkuan Police lodged an FIR against the BJP leader Ms Madhu Verma as only a counter FIR. The police first lodged an FIR by the BJP leader against the scribe.
“The role of local Kadamkuan police inspector Jyoti Prakash was doubtful since beginning. He even got the BJP leader’s FIR written as per his wish and satisfaction”, charged the residents of the complex.
Significantly, even after a month no action was being taken against the local BJP leader or the police officer. The Bihar BJP leaders have kept a stoic silence over the issue, for reasons known only to them.
“What to talk about action I’ve come to know that the local BJP MLA Arun Kumar Sinha even has come out openly in support of the Ms Verma. I was even intimidated by some local BJP leaders for a compromise”, said the harassed journalist.
Getting no response from the local BJP leadership the victim journalist had requested the senior party leader Lal Krishna Advani to look into the incident on his personal level.
“What could I do except making pleas to the senior party leaders for action”, said Tewary.
Recently, the chairman of the Press Council of India Justice [retd] Markandey Katju too has declared that “there was no freedom of press n Bihar” and that statement later had created a political stir in the state.
The Opposition leaders in Bihar have been crating ruckus while staging walk-outs from the legislature for the last three days. The Opposition RJD leaders on Tuesday took out a protest March in Patna demanding probe on what the PCI chairman had said.
Though, the Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi had questioned the very motive of Katju’s statement while demanding his removal from the post, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has maintained a stoic silence on the issue.
