Arms licences issued to Rohtas villagers to counter Maoists’ menace

Patna,(BiharTimes): The district magistrate of Rohtas, Anupam Kumar, has recently issued licences to 65 people of the tribal-dominated villages in the southern part of the district so that they can purchase firearms and counter the threat of Maoists.

According to reports these 65 people are residents of about a dozen villages of Shivsagar, Nauhatta and Chenari police stations in the vicinity of Kaimur Hills. They are considered as the bastion of the Maoists. Reports also said that the administration has plans to issue more licences in the coming days.
Local villagers of Pipardih, Bhurkura, Banda, Magha, Salma and Auraiya, located on the Kaimur plateau, have been provided with arms licences.

They had first raised the demand of licence during home secretary Amir Subhani’s visit to Chenari camps in July-August last.

A large number of people belonging to the Kharwar tribe left their houses and took shelter at government-run camps in Chenari as they fear attack from the Maoists.

It needs to be recalled that Kaimuranchal Vikas Morcha (KVM), which broke away from CPI(Maoist) a few years ago, had submitted a petition to the chief minister’s secretariat in Patna on August 11, 2011, drawing the attention of the state administration towards the plight of the tribals, who are frequently targeted by Maoist in Rohtas and Kaimur districts.
