Patna,(BiharTimes): The agriculture cabinet of the state government on Tuesday decided to include education department in the agri cabinet. HRD minister P K Shahi and principal secretary, education, Anjani Kumar Singh, were present at the meeting chaired by the chief minister Nitish Kumar. |
The agri-cabinet also decided to give stipend to agriculture students to attract talent to agriculture colleges. Inclusion of agriculture in school curriculum will open up avenues of teaching to agriculture graduates.
It also decided to invest Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the next five years in agriculture road map to more than double foodgrain production by 2022 and spur the growth of other agriculture and allied economic activities for rural prosperity in Bihar.
The cabinet constituted a Resource Management Group (RMG) headed by chief secretary to mobilize resources every year for implementing the provisions of agri road map.
It also decided that a congregation of 2,000 farmers would be organized in Patna on February 2, at which two of their representatives from every district would be allowed to share their opinion on the agri road map.
Under the road map, foodgrain production would be raised from the present 130 lakh tonnes to 252 lakh tonnes in 2017 and 325 lakh tonnes in 2022. Of this, rice production would be raised from the present 56 lakh tonnes to 94 lakh tonnes in 2017 and 126 lakh tonnes in 2022. Wheat production would be raised from the present 50 lakh tonnes to 65 lakh tonnes in 2017 and 74 lakh tonnes in 2022. Maize production would be increased from the present 19 lakh tonnes to 63 lakh tonnes in 2017 and 90 lakh tonnes in 2022.
The RMG would mobilize resources for this from state plan, central sponsoring agencies and private finance organizations.
