The first meeting of the Council, with its 48 members, was held at Patna College on January 20, 1913. But a few days back the Chairman of the Legislative Council had announced that it would be held in Bankipore Club as, according to him, the first meeting was held in 1912 there.
Sources told BiharTimes that it was Prof Bharati S Kumar of the department of History, Patna University, who reportedly wrote to the Chairman of the Legislative Council, Tarakant Jha, pointing out that the first meeting was not held in Bankipore Club but the Seminar Hall of the Patna College. It is upon this that the state government decided to change the venue.
Senior officials of the Council inspected Patna College on Tuesday. They also discussed the details of the meeting with college authorities.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Council Chairman Tara Kant Jha, and several other ministers, will attend this special session. Both the Chief Minister and his deputy are its members.
It may be recalled here that a new province of Bihar and Odisha was created by the British government. The Legislative Council was formed in 1912 and the first sitting convened on January 20, 1912.
Coincidentally Patna College is also celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The 150th Foundation Day of the college would be celebrated on a grand scale on January 9, said its Principal Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh.
