Patna,(BiharTimes): A gang of dacoits looted ornaments worth Rs 3.50 lakh, besides three cell phones, from the jewellery shop of Ashok Kumar at Hajiganj in Patna City on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 3.15 pm when 50-year-old Ashok, owner of Swarn Rekha Jewellers, was in his shop with his wife and two fellow businessmen, Babloo Khatri, owner of the adjacent New Khazana Jewellers, and Alok Kumar, the owner of Maa Vaishavi Jewellers. |
Three persons, in early 20s, came to the shop as customers. They wanted a gold chain as a birthday gift for their sister. As they were not satisfied with the chains shown to them they asked for more designs. Ashok showed them around 10 chains.
Alok Kumar also had two chains of his and he displayed them as well. Altogether, there were around a dozen chains on the counter. Around 3.30pm, one of the men received a call on his cellphone. He wished Happy Birthday to the person on the other end of the phone.
Moments later five men suddenly barged into the shop armed with pistols and they took away all the chains placed on the counter. They pointed pistols at the shopkeepers to scare them. The criminals entered the lane nearby and simply walked away. They also took three mobile phones, belonging to the jewellers.
Criminals have taken Patna by storm. Only on Monday miscreants shot and injured brother-in-law of Janata Dal (United) councilor, Prabha Devi, when she refused to pay Rs 50 lakh demanded by the builders for a mall she wanted to build in her West Boring Canal Road plot.
A few days back criminals snatched Rs 3.80 lakh and motorcycle from liquor dealer near Bahadur overbridge.
Police have failed to make breakthrough in any of the incident.
Meanwhile, shopkeepers of Hajiganj and Maroofganj Mandi downed their shutters on Wednesday in protest against the incident. The traders demanded the immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the dacoity.
