Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief Miniser Nitish Kumar on Saturday hoped that the power shortage in Bihar would become history within next few years.
Laying the foundation stone of 1980 MWNabinagar Thermal Generating Company, at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district on Saturday he said that the plant would be built within a stipulated time of five years. The Rs 13,000 crore project is the joint venture of the National Thermal Power Corporation and Bihar State Electricity Board. |
The chief minister laid the foundation only after personally meeting a delegation of farmers in Patna on Jan 25 and 26 to amicably sort out the problems related to acquisition of land.
Speaking on the occasion in Nabinagar the chief minister assured villagers of early resettlement and rehabilitation. He said compensation of Rs 21 lakh per acre would be paid to farmers whose land have been acquired.
He also directed the district magistrate of Aurangabad to take responsibility of the rehabilitation and resettlement in accordance with the choices of the farmers. A total of 2833 acres have been acquired for this mega-power project.
It needs to be recalled that earlier the farmers strongly protested the acquisition of land for this purpose.
