Patna,(BiharTimes): Padamshri Gajendra Narayan Singh has strongly criticised the Nitish Kumar government for totally ignoring the musicians of the state for the coming Bihar Mahotsava. |
In an open letter to Hindustan Times on Jan 24, 2012 he wrote: “Much publicity is being given to Bihar Mahotsava. In speech (sic) the government is pretending to unravel the state’s heritage and cultural pride. But its action show otherwise.”
Singers and performers from outside the state are being invited who have nothing to do with Bihar’s cultural pride.
He came down heavily on the move to invite the fully commercialized artistes “to satiate the pleasure cravings of the state government’s officials and ministers concerned.”
“The media is watching this in silence and backing the government. This is a fraud being perpetrated on Bihar and Biharis that should be condemned unequivocally.”
Raising several serious questions he asked: “Will such an attitude of the government help preserve the cultural heritage and honour of Bihar? Does the media have no responsibility towards this state, to initiate steps to oppose such unnecessary and undesirable activities?”
“As a committed cultural activist it is my duty to request you (the media) to help curb this drama in the name of rekindling the pride of Bihar and Biharis that the state government is playing by inviting reality show players like Kailash Kher and Sunidhi Chauhan,” the letter said.
