Patna,(BiharTimes): A couple of months back Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ridiculed Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal’s move to set up Central University of Bihar in Gaya and not Motihari because, among other things, it has a better road, rail and air connectivity. He then said that Oxford and Cambridge had no airports when they were set up.
On Monday he said something quite different. He was pleased to announce that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had given consent to set up an airport at Nalanda, for connectivity to the proposed Nalanda International University. |
He went on to say that the decision was taken at the Nalanda International University monitoring committee meeting held in New Delhi and presided over by the Planning Commission
Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia to discuss the communication reference points like airport, road and railway connectivity for the proposed university.
Nitish said that he was also invited for the meeting to discuss transportation infrastructure for the proposed institution and gave valuable inputs.
Interestingly, Gaya already had a very good rail, road and air connectivity. The Centre only opted to open CUB there because these are the factors which do count in the establishment of any prestigious institutiton. Apart from connectivity other factors also supported Gaya and not flood-prone Motihari.
Critics say now Nitish may understand the role of connectivity, which he had repeatedly been ridiculing for no rhyme or reason.
