Sushil Modi reiterates demand for payment of CST compensation

Patna,(BiharTimes): The chairman of the empowered group of state finance ministers, Sushil Kumar Modi, has reiterated the demand of states for payment of central sales tax (CST) compensation before the latter demits office.
Modi, who is also the deputy chief minister of Bihar, in a letter written to Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee (dated June 22), had asked him to resolve the deadlock over CST compensation before the finance minister quits to contest the presidential polls to ensure timely rollout of the goods and services tax (GST).

According to the letter the CST compensation issue remains unresolved longer, then it may affect the implementation of GST.

It has been a bone of contention between the Centre and state governments with the Union government refusing to give any further money to states without any definite implementation date for GST. Initially expected to be rolled out from April 1, 2010, GST may now be implemented only after the next government gets elected in 2014.
