Bihar seeks central nod to act against tainted IPS officials

Patna, March 5 (IANS) The Bihar government Monday sought permission of the central government to take action against five tainted officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) who were found guilty of various charges, officials said.
According to an official of the General Administration Department here, the state government has sent a report in this connection to the central government for its permission to initiate action against the five IPS officers who are serving in the state.

"The state government will take action against five tainted IPS officers after it gets permission from the concerned ministry of the central government," official said.

Last year, the government said there were 25 tainted IPS officers in the state and an inquiry was being held against them.

A few months ago, the state government sought explanation from nearly a dozen IPS officers, while explanations from nine other IPS officials have been received and are being examined, he said.

The names of the tainted IPS officers have not been made public so far.
