Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday conceded that there were discrepancies in the number of students enrolled in schools and those attending classes. However, he denied that there is any scam in their enrolment.

Speaking in the Assembly during a discussion on a short notice question by BJP MLA Achyutanand the chief minister said that the problem had been caused due to scrapping of the school leaving certificate(SLC) for admission to another school. Interestingly, he blamed the former RJD government for it.
Nitish said that the discrepancies came to the fore after the launch of the health guarantee scheme mandating issuance of health cards to all students upon furnishing of all details about them.
He said it was then found that the same student was registered in different classes of the same school or even different schools at the same time.
The chief minister accepted that discrepancies were a matter of concern and added that his government had attained 97 per cent enrolment rate by 2011, against 88 per cent in 2005.
He also said that the state government had taken the report by Pratham, an NGO on the annual status of education report seriously.
The report had strongly criticised the quality of education in Bihar, particularly at the primary level.
