Cambodia opposes move to build Angkor Wat Temple in Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Cambodia has objected to the plan of Mahavir Temple Trust to build world's tallest Angkor Wat Temple in Hajipur district, about 25 km from Bihar's capital, Patna.
China's Xinhua news agency reported from Phnom Penh that the country had even warned that this action of Trust may even affect the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

According to the country's minister of Cultural and Fine Arts Him Chhem there is only Angkor Wat Temple in the world and that is in Cambodia. It was listed as one of the World Heritage Sites in 1992. He said his country does not support the construction of a duplicate temple anywhere in the world.

It needs to be recalled that Bhumi Puja for the Temple in Vaishali district started last Monday. The Temple is expected to cost Rs 100 crore (around 20 million US dollar) and is proposed to be tallest in the world.

Reports in international media fear that the flow of tourists to Cambodia
would be affected by the construction of replica of that temple in Bihar.
The Temple in Cambodia attracted 1.6 million foreign tourists last year, an increase
of 23 per cent from 1.3 million a year before.
