Patna,(BiharTimes): After Uttar Pradesh the Janata Dal (United) has decided to call off its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) election, which is due on April 15. The party would contest election for all the 272 seats alone. |
This was disclosed on Sunday by the Delhi Pradesh chief of Janata Dal (United), Thakur Balbir Singh, on the day Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar attended a Bihar Diwas function in Delhi. It is estimated that Delhi has about four million Biharis and all the regional parties of the state, RJD, LJP and Janata Dal (United) have been contesting elections. The Janata Dal (United) contested 27 seats in alliance with the BJP in 2007 Corporation election.
But several of its candidates, after winning the election, switched over to the other parties. For example, Shoaib Iqbal went over to LJP and former mayor, Razia Sultana, to Congress.
Thakur Balbir Singh said that the party had decided to call off their alliance with the BJP as they were unhappy with the performance of the sitting Councillors of the saffron party. Instead the party may go in alliance with the Trinamool Congress or the Peace Party, a party floated by a Muslim belonging to Uttar Pradesh. The Peace Party took part in the recent UP Assembly election too. This has been done keeping in mind the voters of Bengal and UP too.
