CUB may be a two-campus university

Patna,(BiharTimes): The statement given by the Union Human Resources Development Minister, Kapil Sibal, on Monday that he was eager to talk to the Bihar chief minister on the issue of Central University of Bihar has further confirmed the news emanating from New Delhi for the last one week that a compromise is being worked out to end the standoff over the issue.

As per the compromise formula, while the headquarters of the CUB would be in Gaya, there would be another campus in Motihari too. After all multi-campus universities is not a new concept.

While Kapil Sibal, the HRD ministry and many academics favour Gaya for the CUB on account of accessibility, facilities and other practical and logistical considerations, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has been insisting on Motihari. The issue of CUB has not only divided the people of East Champaran and Gaya for no reason whatsoever it has also created a serious division in the NDA rank and file.


Media reports from New Delhi says that Sibal is keen to resolve the issue. The help of BJP and Janata Dal (United) in Rajya Sabha is essential for passing the bills.

There is a general feeling in Bihar that Nitish Kumar and the BJP leaders are playing politics on the issue. The state government did so in the case of AMU’s off-campus centre in Bihar too.
