Patna,(BiharTimes): The chief of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtravadi Kisan Sangathan (ABRKS) and alleged head of Ranveer Sena, a private army of affluent upper caste farmers, Bramheshwar Singh alias Mukhiyaji strongly criticized the Nitish government for its decision to challenge in the Supreme Court the recent Patna high court ruling acquitting the 23 accused of the Bathani Tola massacre. Twenty-one dalits and minorities, including women and children, were gunned down by Ranveer Sena on July 11, 1996, in Bhojpur district. |
Earlier on May 3 last year, a lower court at Ara had awarded death sentence to three of the accused and life imprisonment to 20 others.
Talking to mediapersons in Patna on Monday he said he was upset that the Nitish government had not decided to challenge the acquittal of CPI (ML) leader Sudama Prasad, a named accused in the killing of prominent landholder Jwala Singh of Danwar Bihta village in the same district. The Nitish government’s stance towards the two cases of acquittal smacks of its double standards, he alleged.
He said that his Kisan Sangathan has now decided to mobilize farmers and agricultural workers in the state to champion their cause. He accused the successive state governments, including that of Nitish Kumar, of ignoring the interests of farmers.
The sixty-six year old chief said that while none of the Kisan Sangathan members, including he himself, would take part in the 2014 parliamentary or 2015 assembly elections, they would definitely mobilize farmers, small and marginal peasants and agricultural workers to agitate for the redressal of their demands.Mukhiyaji said that the rising price of agriculture inputs and low returns on agricultural produce had worsened the condition of farmers, so much that they are unable to pay the official minimum wage of Rs 144 to agricultural workers.
The Ranvir Sena chief said that if the Left extremists are against the government, then his organization has nothing to do with it. But if they come to the doorsteps of farmers again, then the latter would chalk out its strategy again. Stating that Kisan Sangathan was open to work with even the CPI (ML) and would like the extremists to join the mainstream under its banner Bramheshwar denied that he had been associated with Ranveer Sena at any point of time.
He said his association with Sena men was invented by the government. He alleged that the police had implicated him in around 30 cases. Of them, he had been acquitted in 10, while the trial was going on in 20 other cases. Brahmeshwar, who was granted bail last year, chose to speak on other issues too. He came down heavily on rampant corruption and deterioration on all fronts, including education.
He said distribution of cycles and school uniform among students is not going to help as it amounts to bribing them the students. Also present in the Press conference were ABRKS secretary Rakesh Kumar Sharma, secretary general Sanjeev Singh and treasurer Anjani Kumar, and others.
