Patna,(BiharTimes): The Income Tax department has sought from District Transport Office, Patna, the detail list of people who have bought luxurious vehicles in the last financial year. About 20,000 such swanky cars were bought in that period alone.
The IT department wants to know the source of the income of the buyers. Whether they have taken bank loan? If so whether hypothecation has been done or not? What is their annual income? Whether they file their return or not? |
All the Income Tax officers have been given the task to detect whether these buyers are involved in tax theft or not.
According to DTO, Harihar Prasad, in the last financial year alone 78,000 vehicles were registered––20,000 of them were expensive cars. He said that the list has been sent to the Income Tax department.
The price of these vehicles are between Rs five and 25 lakh. They are Balero, Scorpio, Xylo, Tata Safari, Tata Aria, Ford Endeavour, Pajero, Fortuner, Innova, Honda City, Toyota, Skoda etc.
The ITO is also keeping a close eye on builders and real estate dealers. It has sought the list of buyers and sellers from the registry office so that their source of income could be known. The Income Tax department want to know whether they are paying tax or not.
The investigation team of the I-T is preparing a list of the builders as it has got the information that many of them are involved in tax theft. They are earning in crores but not filing returns. They grossly undervalue the flat.
According to the sources last year 3,608 flats were registered. In Patna Sadar alone their number is 3,332. In Patna City 10 and in Danapur 266 flats were registered.
The ITO is surprised over the price of these flats. Though their actual price is between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 1.5 crore they are grossly undervalued at the time of registration.
The I-T wants to know whether they have filed returns in that proportion or not. Or whether it is black money?
Details have been sought from P & M Mall too.
On March 22, that is Bihar Diwas day, the Income Tax department raided the business and residential premises of Vinay Kumar Sinha, a Janata Dal (United) leader and close associate of chief minister, Nitish Kumar. Papers of 51 flats and cash worth about Rs five crore were recovered from him.
