Patna,(BiharTimes): One thousand six hundred and seventy (1,670) doctors working under National Rural Health Mission in Bihar have threatened to go on strike if their services are not regularised by July 5.
According to Dr Abhishek Sinha, general secretary of the Bihar State Contract Doctors’ Association (BSCDA), they would paralyse emergency services too if their demands for job regularisation and hike in salary are not met by July 5. |
He said the state government had failed to regularise the services of even those doctors who have been working at different primary health centres (PHCs) for four consecutive years.
The Nitish Kumar government has issued directive to these doctors to appear for a written examination, which will be conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) and the doctors will have to obtain minimum 40 per cent marks and then face an interview for a permanent job.
But Dr Amitabh Kumar, executive president of the BSCDA, said that as working doctors, they do not get time to study and prepare for competitive examination.
Doctors told BiharTimes that if they are not competent enough then why have they been appointed on contractual basis and doing all the work. “In fact we are working much more than the regular doctors. We have been doing major operations and all other works in the last four years, yet we are now asked to appear in examination once again,” one of them said.
The doctors also alleged that though their salaries are coming from the Centre yet the state government makes payment after much delay, sometimes after eight to 10 months. In other states the payment has been hiked but not in Bihar, where they are still exploited.
