Patna,(BiharTimes): Jharkhand and Bihar have highest percentage of untrained teachers among the big states of the country.According to reports from New Delhi quoting HRD Ministry Jharkhand has around 54.50 per cent untrained school teachers while Bihar, 51.51 per cent. Both States have recruited lakhs of teachers under the centrally-sponsored Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in the last few years. |
Out of the total of 3,36,151 teachers in Bihar, there are 1,73,167 untrained teachers. This has a direct bearing on the quality of education at the school level. Not only are these newly appointed teachers untrained a sizeable number of them are poorly educated as initially they were all appointed without any written test or interview.
Some television channels have repeatedly exposed how these teachers can not even spell various months of the year.Jharkand has total 1,34,468 teachers. On the other hand the Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli have almost cent percent trained teachers imparting education in primary and secondary schools.
There are more than eight lakh teachers in the country without the requisite qualifications at the elementary level as per the District Information System for Education, 2010-11.Reports also said that while Daman and Diu, Dadra have 0.09 per cent untrained teachers, Chandigarh has 1.60 per cent, Delhi 1.14 per cent, Goa 1.49 per cent, Maharashtra 1.20 per cent, Tamil Nadu 1.58 per cent and Gujarat three per cent untrained teachers. An HRD Ministry official was quoted as saying that the Centre would ask the States to train their untrained teachers so that the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan can be implemented successfully.
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) implementation requires close cooperation of the States with the Centre. Since the RTE Act became operative, sanctions have been given under SSA for opening of about 40,000 new primary schools, 12,000 upper primary schools and appointment of over six lakh additional trained teachers all over the country.
