Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday ordered a crackdown on those involved in power theft in the state. He issued the order at a high level review meeting of the Bihar State Electricity Board.
The state, which is power starved, is losing a large amount of electricity due to theft and transmission losses. He also instructed officials of the state power department to penalise those caught indulging in power theft.

The meeting also discussed the proposal to divide the electricity board into five companies. These include one holding company, transmission company, generation company and two distribution companies.
According to the Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar Sinha the proposed division was aimed at bringinging the transmission loss down from 40 per cent to 24 per cent in five years.
The state government is currently providing an assistance of Rs 180 crore per month to the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB), which comes to Rs 2,160 crore annually.
After creation of separate companies, the state government would not be required to provide any financial assistance to BSEB, the government statement said.
The chief secretary said the division of the BSEB into five different companies would not affect the interest of employees and pensioners.
