“College girls of Patna need peer group helpline”

Patna,(BiharTimes): “College girls of Patna should form their own peer group to face any emergency situation in streets.” This was an important suggestion made in a workshop on “Security of Daughters” organized by the Students Counselling Centre of the Magadh Mahila College on Sunday.

Many students and their parents who participated in the event had demanded immediate bus service for girl students in the city. “The secured public transport system is the need of the hour in the city,” opined many guardians. They were of the view that most of the eve-teasing takes place on the way to college.

The seminar was organized in the wake of sharp increase in crimes against girls in the city. “There is a wide communication gap between parents and girls who are many a time exposed to the sexual harassment and eve-teasing. The need of the hour is to have peer group network, which could provide helping hand at the time of crisis,” said Prof Shashi Sharma Counselling Cell Coordinator.

The Chief Guest on the occasion, Justice (retired) Rajendra Prasad, member of Bihar Human Rights Commission, stressed the role of family in inculcating strong social values in the girls. Another speaker

Prof D M Diwakar director, A N Sinha Institute of Social Studies advised educational institutions to provide martial art training to the girls. A number of participants were of the opinion that girls should adhere to the dress codes to avert eveteasing cases.
