Patna, Sep 14 (IANS) In a bid to put pressure on absconding criminals to surrender, the Bihar police has attached properties at the houses of 5,830 absconding criminals during a special drive, police here said Friday.

"Police have attached properties of 5,830 absconding criminals across the state during its three-day special drive early this week," a senior police official said.
After arresting over 18,000 criminals, both warranties and absconders, in early September, the police have decided to act against absconding criminals, Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Headquarters, Ravindra Kumar said.
"Top district police officials were directed to carry out property attachment proceedings against the wanted criminals who are absconding," Kumar said.
According to police officials, Muzaffarpur district has topped the list of attachment of properties of absconding criminals at 506, followed by 501 in Patna, 418 in Jamui, 315 in Begusarai and 280 in Bhojpur districts.
Kumar said police officials have been asked to prepare a list of 10 most notorious criminals in each district.
Kumar said the move is aimed at tightening the noose around criminals and send a strong message that police would act against criminals.
